2022 Emerging Artist Fellowship Exhibition
This fellowship was created to highlight and elevate BIPOC and Latinx Newburgh emerging artists to assist them in reaching the next level of their artistic careers. This exhibition is an anthology of their works created in the last three months. Each artist has an individual voice in their section of the show, but they all are unified in their love for art and passion for each respective theme.
"Angelís Wong’s line of garments embody her mixed-race background uniting both Asian and Latinx heritages. Each piece traces a lineage, defining an identity manifest as second skin. The clothing—its material, texture, form–not only representing and reclaiming history but also projecting forms for the future."

As an artist, I am inspired by everything I see in my surroundings. I use nature, items in my house, and different colors to create my work. I have been trying to experiment with many different mediums and techniques in recent years. I love doing still-life drawings, acrylic paintings, wooden sculptures, embroidery, and sewing. Experimenting with different materials inspires me to create new things and figure out what new techniques I can learn to create something beautiful.
The theme of this series is my narrative of growing up as a mixed-race woman. This series consists of a small fashion line of garments showing significant colors from both nationalities, some symbols and icons I have learned about, and things I remember about growing up as a mixed child. Creating clothing based on my background helps me to connect to my family while also learning more about who I have become. Since I was little, I always dreamt about becoming a Fashion Designer so I could help people have access to affordable and comfortable clothing. Over the years, I taught myself how to sew by hand and machine. I feel that creating everything by hand would give a sense of power and delicacy to my series.
